Bibai – Utsunomiya, Air show on May 27th

今回、開催される記念行事への招待状がAOPA事務局に届いた事を知り、私は大村理事を誘い二人で北海道からRJTUへの飛行参加を決めました。
私達は、記念式典前日に確実に到着するため（北海道から宇都宮まで長いフライトのため）5月25日→5月28日まで予備日を加えたフライト予定を組みました。
あいにく26日の天気予報が悪いので、25日（金曜日）午後、美唄を離陸しました。
三沢付近より雲中飛行となったため三沢とコンタクトしIFR飛行に切り替え、最低高度9000‘で飛行を続けていたところ、エンジンのスパッタリングからアイシング
状態になりました。
正確な速度表示を得るためピトーヒートを入れ、高度を7000‘まで一気に下げ、花巻に向かうのを取りやめ、函館に戻るコースに変更、「可能ならばIFR 7000‘ で青森に向いたい!」と伝えたところ、コントローラーが怒って、「何処に行きたいのか?函館?青森?青森に行くのなら9000‘まで上昇せよ!」と返答され、困惑していたところ、状況を理解したベテランのコントローラーに担当変更、
高度 7000‘で青森まで我々をレーダーベクターしてくれました。そして青森空港の管制官へと繋ぎ、フライトプランを確認後、着陸許可をもらい、無事青森到着、この夜は駅前のホテルに一泊しました。
翌日、私達は素晴らしい天気に回復した青森を離陸、燃料給油のため瀬峰飛行場を経由、無事宇都宮に着陸しました。
続いて到着した2機のAOPA会員機のメンバーと共に、自衛隊が用意して下さったバスでホテルまで送ってもらい一休み、その夜は地元会員の堀川さんに街を案内して
いただき、メンバーと共に楽しく食事、さらに豪華なバーでカクテルを飲み、楽しい夜を過ごしましたが、そのバーでは、とても印象に残る、奇妙な?バーテンダーに会いました!（事務局注、宇都宮は日本一のカクテルの町として
有名なので、せっかく宇都宮に来たのだからと言うことで、カクテルバーへも案内して頂きました。）
翌日の航空ショーは、我々飛行機野郎には素晴らしい一日でした。様々な、ヘリコプターチームのアクロバットショー、彼らは背面飛行に、可能な限り近い技術でフライトし、大勢の観客を魅了したショーだった。
帰る際、RJTUのコントロラーが、“我々のイベントに参加して頂きありがとうがざいます、のメッセージと、さらに遠距離フライトの我々を、少しでも早く出発を、と配慮して頂き、午後2時30分宇都宮を離陸、帰途に就きまし
た。
私達は本日中に、丘珠空港、運用時刻20時までに到着したいと急ぎました。恐れていた雷雨にもあわず、再び給油のため瀬峰飛行場に立ち寄り、風も味方について、大湊までは、ほぼ追い風と、日没直前の支笏湖、羊蹄山の素晴らしい光景を見ながら無事、19 : 30に丘珠空港に到着する事が出来ました。堀川様。AOPA事務局 畑仲様。

the invitation to AOPA
members to this air show, I
contacted Mr. Oomura and
he quickly agreed to join
this fl ight from Hokkaido to
RJTU. We were supposed
to arrive on May 26 th,
2012 for the show, but it is
long ways from Hokkaido to Utsunomiya. So, we
reserved May 25th – to May 28th in our schedule
for the flight. Indeed the weather forecast for
Saturday the 26th was not good for Hokkaido, so
we left on the 25 th afternoon. Everything went
well till we got Misawa and we had to file IFR
to continue in clouds and over high terrain. At
9000’, the minimum enroute altitude, we got into
icing, the engine started sputtering and we had to
use pitot heat to get an accurate speed indication.
Because of the bad weather we decided to go to
7000’ and to reverse course to fl y to Hakodate.
However, if possible, we wanted to go to Aomori
at 7000’ in IFR. Initially, the controller got angry
and said, “Where do you want to go? Hakodate?
Aomori?” To Aomori he wanted us to climb to
9000’, but we requested a routing at 7000’.
Eventually, the controller was changed and the
new experienced controller vectored us at 7000’to Aomori, to a safe landing – after Aomori tower
confi rmed we had a valid fl ight plan.
The next day we had clear skies, perfect flying
weather and after our fuel stop in Semine we
landed safely in Utsunomiya. The other two AOPA
airplanes arrived 1-2h later and we were taken to
the hotel in a military bus. Ms. Horikawa from the
local airplane association took us around in the
city for dinner and a drink in a fancy bar with a
strange bartender.
The airshow on the next day was nice to see
for any airplane guy. Especially, the flight show
of the “almost” acrobatic helicopter team was
superb – they fl ew as close as possible to invert.
With a “thank you for attending our event” the
controller send us off after about 14 : 30 – we
were almost the fi rst to leave because we wanted
to get back to Sapporo the same day and had
to get some fuel again in Semine before arriving
in Okadama by 20 : 00 . We were afraid of the
possible thunderstorms as well, but the weather
was perfect this Sunday, even the wind – we had
tailwinds most of the time till Ominato and then
arrived safely in Okadama at 19:30. Many thanks
to Ms. Horikawa, Ms. Hatanaka and the people in
RJTU!!
